Picnic is Fun!

What is a fun and exciting activity to do outdoors; especially during the summer?  Picnics!
Jeffrey Harmes and The Harmes Team, your residential specialists in the Denver North Metro area, think so too!  Below are some practical suggestions when going out on a picnic.

1.        Venue, venue, venue!
This is quite important and relevant depending on the number of people who will enjoy your picnic.  Pick out the best picnic place for you, your family, and your friends in the Thornton area.  A pavilion with shade and plenty of grassy space is suggested for the children as well as a playground; especially for a big picnic.  For a small, family only kind of a picnic, the only real requirement is a place where the land is flat ground to lay your blanket, food and stuff onto, and of course, a spacious play space.  In either case you will need to make sure that the land is public and not privately owned!

2.        Plan the picnic.
For most, impromptu, picnics are fun.  It does not hurt to plan an awesome day with family and friends.  Be clear on who is bringing what – we don’t want to look for utensils or paper cups when we are at the picnic area.  Food including fruits, drinks, and desserts must be checked.  It’s also a good idea to have a First Aid kit; just in case as well as an extra change of clothes – swimsuits, extra shirts, etc.

3.        Check the weather.
It is important that we make sure our picnic day will be sunny and warm especially if it is a picnic away from our own backyard.  Check the weather before planning your perfect picnic day.  No matter what the case, make sure to pack sunscreens / sunblock for protection.

4.        Pack light but pack everything.
Traditional picnics include a wicker basket full of food, a blanket, and maybe a recreational toy or two.  Be practical and realistic.  Food is better packed in compact containers in an insulated bag that has nifty compartments to secure everything in place. Be creative with your picnic food, picnics don’t always have to be about sandwiches.  You could make a salad from produce found at your local Farmer’s Market or you could try the newest fad: desserts in a jar – this should be fun to make and to eat!  A small table or a bed tray to rest your food on might not be a bad idea; and let us not forget, paper towels, towelettes and trash bags – remember, it’s important to clean up after yourselves.

5.        Picnic activities
Picnics are fun for the whole family.  And we want our little ones have the most fun on that day.  While the adults enjoy fishing or catching up under the shade with food and drinks the children will be having fun doing outdoor activities, playing picnic games and simply enjoying the great outdoors.
