home room by room. There are many cost efficient ways in
which rooms can be updated. Start by planning and figuring out what you want to
work on first and your budget, check the costs of remodeling your home room by room. Once you have found the balance of want you want
and what you can afford identified it’s time to begin. Having a guide on what to makeover in your homehelps a lot in focusing on what needs to
go and what can be fixed up and stay.
- The Basics – Start with some very easy things like new floors and carpet, window treatments, updating the ceiling: take the popcorn ceiling off, maybe new light fixtures and get rid of the brass! New paint makes everything look clean and bright and it is easily the cheapest way to make an impact.
- Furniture – Modern furniture can blend well with older homes to change its appeal. Keeping the old and mixing it with a new furniture, or changing the look of the old furniture and accentuate it with new materials (e.g. Pillows, table runners, etc.).
- Kitchen - Kitchens are called the heart of the home for a reason, for a few hundred dollars you can really make a big difference by giving your kitchen a little TLC. Replacing cabinet hardware, or rather than springing for a whole new cabinet system, which can be expensive, look into re-facing the ones you have, or even a fresh coat of paint can do the trick. Adding easy to apply backsplash like the Smart Tiles can make any tired kitchen look new again.
- Appliances- Give your appliances a face lift! Stainless steel is always in style, neutral, easy to clean and its make a huge impact. If new appliances aren’t in the budget look in to faux painting your current ones!
- Bathrooms- Next to the kitchen, bathrooms are often the most important rooms to update. They can also be updated without a lot of cash. Simple things like a new sink, vanity, or framing the existing mirror looks custom and are easy to do yourself. You can replace the floor with new tile or peal and stick vinyl tiles that can be applied right over your old floor. If the bath and shower are looking a little dingy look into re-grouting, makes it look so clean again and can be done in a single day.
- Decorations – This has something to do specifically with the look that you want to achieve. Artwork and other decorations will make up for the age of the room once it is artistically placed, but remember less is always more. Plants and flowers always bring a room together– make sure the plants placed are easy to maintain.
- Landscaping – this is something you may need help on, especially if you are not savvy with plants or working on your yard. Curb appeal is very important.
